Activity During WWII

Served during WWII with the 386th Anti-Aircraft Automatic Weapons Battalion. He was shipped to England in January 1944 via the port of New York. The 386th provided AA support for the 8th and 9th Air Forces. He landed with the 7th Army on Omaha Beach during Operation Overlord. Other major engagements include the Battle of the Bulge, Verdun, and Metz. His awards include the Good Conduct Medal, ETO Ribbon with four bronze stars, American Theater Ribbon and WWII Victory Medal. At one point, he was in a field, and was shot by a sniper. The round ricochet off of his helmet and he was unhurt. The helmet remains in the family at the time of this dedication.
