Activity During WWII

He entered the service on March 4, 1943, assigned to the 28th Division. After training in Florida and Virginia, in October 1943 he was stationed in Wales. With several months of training, he arrived at Omaha Beach on July 23, 1944. A gunner, he was injured during a battle in the hedgerows of Percy, France just over a week later, on August 2, 1944. He was recovering from his wounds in hospital when he was awarded a Purple Heart on August 15. He was discharged on January 2, 1945.
