Entered service on 7-19-1943 - originally in regular Navy but upon exam and finding his color blindness, sent him to the Seabees. Completed boot camp at NTS Farragut Idaho Assigned to 3rd Nav Const Reg. 10th Nav., Const. Batt Camp Peary WIM VA USN Sep Cen - Great Lakes, IL Honorable Discharge - 5-2-1946 Highest Rank - Yeoman Second Class Awards: Point System; Victory Medal; American Area Campaign Medal; Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal; Philippine Liberation He performed clerical services in Pearl Harbor as well as on the island of Samar in the Philippines. On way home from leave in August of 1945, in the middle of the Pacific, captain of ship announced war's end - but would keep zig zagging because an enemy sub may not have gotten the word. After his leave, he worked at Navy Pier in Chicago processing separations for returning service personnel.
