Activity During WWII

First Lieutenant Ernest Henry Alden, Jr. (Service Numbers 20243853, O-707477), served with the 782nd Bombardment Squadron, 465th Bombardment Group, US Army Air Force. He was awarded the Air Medal with Cluster and the Purple Heart. He enlisted March 22, 1940, in Essex County, New Jersey, age 19. Alden was killed in action March 22, 1945, age 24, on a flight to the Heiligenstadt marshalling yards near Vienna, Austria. Ernest was a radar observer on B-24 Liberator #44-49566. He is interred at the Beverly National Cemetery, New Jersey.
