He was in the US Army from January 1943 to January 1946. He served as a cryptographic repairman assigned to 3111th Signal Service Battalion and served through the Normandy campaign in France, the Rhineland Campaign and in Central Europe. His unit was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation and he was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
