He served from 1941 to 1945 in Company L, 313th Infantry and earned Expert and Sharpshooter Badges. He served in No. France, Normandy, and Rhineland campaigns. He was wounded in the shoulder in France on 6 July 1944 and lost his left leg in France on 9 Oct 1944. He received an Honorable Discharge on 20 December 1945. He was awarded EAMETO Ribbon with 3 Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Inf Badge, American Theater Ribbon, Purple Heart with OLC, and World War II Victory Medal.
