He served in the U.S. Army from March 5, 1941, to December 6, 1945, including as a Cannoneer 844 as part of the Cannon Company, 264th Infantry, Panther Division. He earned the Combat Infantryman Badge MM W Rifle M1, three Service Stripes, two Overseas Service Bars, American Defense Ribbon, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Battle Star and WW II Victory Medal. As part of his service, he served one year in Northern France from November 15, 1944, to November 18, 1945.
