Activity During WWII

When the war was declared, he and his older brother enlisted in the Marine Corps together. He received his training at Camp Elliott in San Diego, CA. He volunteered for gun duty and served as a gunner at Guadalcanal, Bougainville, New Caledonia, and New Guinea to name a few. He and his assistant gunman both suffered gunshot wounds on the same day but stayed in the fight. His unit started with 223 men but by the end of the war, only about 100 survived with many of them badly injured.
