He and his younger brother enlisted the day after Pearl Harbor was attacked. He received his training at Paris Island, S.C. and at Camp Lejuene in North Carolina. He served in Company I, Third Battalion, Third Marine Division in the pacific theatre as an automatic rifleman. He fought at the battles of Somoa, New Caledonia, Coral Sea and at Cibik Ridge in Bouganville to name a few. He rose to the rank of Corporal. After the war, he joined the military police.
