Activity During WWII

He was a member of the Ohio National Guard, 147th Inf. Regiment, company C and later as a light mortar crewman in company D. He along with his unit sailed to the south Pacific arriving on the island of Tonga in May 1942. He served in combat during Operation Watchtower (Guadalcanal) and the Operation Cartwheel (Bismarck Archipelago). He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, the Asiatic-Pacific medal with 2 bronze stars, the American Defense Service medal and the Good Conduct medal. He was qualified as Rifle Markman, Pistol Marksman. He returned home in 1944 and was discharged in 1945.
