He was inducted into the U.S. Army on 17 July 1944 at Richmond, VA. He trained at Camp Blanding, FL and deployed to the Pacific Theatre of Operations and served in the Army of Occupation (Japan). He earned the American Theater Service Medal, Pacific Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal and Honorable Discharge Pin. He was honorably discharged from the Army on 12 August 1946 at Ft Bragg, NC.
