Enlisted United States, Navy, June 1945 at the age of 17, after completing one semester at the University of Pennsylvania majoring in mechanical engineering. Completed basic training at Great Lakes. Selected attended and completed Electronics Class A school in Monterey California August 1945. Separated from active duty and entered US Navy ready reserves for six year commitment at the end of 1945. Returned home to complete undergraduate and graduate degree in mechanical engineering in the University of Pennsylvania by 1950. Recalled to active duty during Korea, and received commission United States, Navy as Ensign in the Seabees. Assigned to Naval Station Philadelphia for the duration of the Korean War. Served until 1967 in the inactive ready reserves advancing to the rank of the rank of lieutenant junior grade.
