Enlisted four months before Pearl Harbor. Bombed on trips to India and the Mediterranean. On his first trip to Bombay, his boat was attacked by 76 Japanese planes who were making their first raid on India. While bringing up supplies to the American army stationed in North Africa, he declared his boat was attacked by 11 Italian torpedo planes 25 miles off the coast of Sardinia. German lines were only 23 miles from the ship at the time of landing. When the post office at Naples was blown up, he was on hand to aid in the rescue.
