He was drafted into the U.S. Army on July 15, 1941. Received basic training at Ft. Bragg, NC. During his service in World War II, he was stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC, Camp Blanding, FL, Camp Shelby, MS, Ft. Ord, CA, Sydney and Brisbane, Australia and in New Guinea. As a Forward Observer with his battalion, his mission was to cross enemy lines, reporting on troop locations. He was assigned to the 7th Field Artillery Observation Battalion. Discharged on November 30th of 1944.
