Served as a B-17 Tail Gunner; 305 Bomb Group / 366 Bomb Squadron based in Chelveston, England Campaigns: Normandy; Northern France; Rhineland; Ardennes-Alsace; Central Europe Awarded: Purple Heart; American Campaign Medal; POW Medal; Good Conduct Medal; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal; World War II Victory Medal He was wounded when his plane was shot down near Leipzig, Germany on 24 August, 1944. Captured by Hitler Youth and held in German POW camp Stalag 9C Bad Sulza Saxe-Weimar. Hospitalized in Berlin and interrogated in Frankfurt au Main. Liberated by General Patton's Third Army.
