Served on USS Olmsted APA-188 in 1st Division, June 1944 through 1946 as BM 3rd Class in Pacific Theater with an Itinerary that included transport of troops and supplies to New Guinea, The Admiralties, Leyte, Lingayen Gulf, Okinawa, and Japan where the crew was present on September 2, 1945 in Tokyo Bay for the Japanese surrender. She was bombed at Luzon and at Leyte without damage and earned one battle star for service. The Olmsted then travelled through Panama Canal and up the East Coast of U.S. for deactivation. Honorably discharged April 12, 1947.
