Activity During WWII

He enlisted in the Army to serve his country from Jacksonville FL in late 1943. He was a Platoon Sergeant in E Company/331st Infantry Regiment/ 83d Division. The unit landed at Normandy at approx. D+12. He fought with the unit from July '44 to March '45 for which he awarded the Bronze Star medal. The unit's campaigns during this time included Brittney, Loire River Valley where the unit cleared out pockets of German resistance. The 331th captured the town of Gey and others on the edge of the Hurtgen Forest. His company is credited for being the first to reach the Rhine River in March '45.
