Activity During WWII

Enlisted into Marine Corps right after Pearl Harbor. Was attached to the 1st Pioneer Battalion 1st Marine Division. Served on Guadalcanal and Cape Gloucester as an engineer. While on Cape Gloucester his unit was re-designated 2nd Battalion 17th Marines. He would come back in 1944 and would become a Basic Engineer instructor at Camp Lejeune, eventually earning the rank of sergeant. In April 1945, he would be demoted back to corporal after going AWOL while on leave visiting his parents. Ralph would be discharged in January 1946.
