He enlisted in the US Army on June 17, 1944 and was assigned to the 99th Infantry Division. He saw action in the Battle of the Bulge, Cologne Plains and Remagen Bridge as a sniper. He was wounded March 15,1945 and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
