He was a fighter pilot assigned to Air Group 16 onboard the USS Lexington. He flew HELLCATS and CORSAIRS in combat, shooting down 3 Japanese Zeros during the War in the Pacific. He was awarded the Silver Star, and he was one of only two Navy pilots to participate in and witness the sinking of three Japanese Carriers during one flight. He survived the war and returned to his bride. He lived to be 99 years old and his wife lived to be 100!
