Activity During WWII

My Dad entered the army sometime in 1942. Because of his marksmanship skills and other reasons, he was assigned to the 240th MP Battalion stationed in Hyde Park, NY at the Roosevelt Home. He served until 1946, I believe. While in Hyde Park he met my mom. We have one photo somewhere, showing him in full uniform, white web gear and bloused boots, standing at attention in the background with FDR and Winston Churchill sitting in the foreground. I remember, every time we had someone visit or even friends / relatives that lived locally and wanted to visit the Home & Library of FDR, Dad readily agreed. He would show his 240th credentials and we would get in for free. Dad knew more of the history of the place then the park rangers and others that lead the tours. Dad said numerous time that only in the United States could a Tennessee farm boy with a 6th grade education could end up guarding the President of the United States.
