Activity During WWII

First Lieutenant, U.S. Army, 5th Armored Division, 628th Tank Destroyer Battalion, Platoon Leader of Company C, served in four major European campaigns (Rhineland/Hurtgen, Ardennes, Central Europe, Northern France). Wounded twice, earning the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star, Distinguished Unit Citation/later known Presidential Unit Citation for Company C under his leadership. Company C received this Citation for the timeframe of November 29, 1944, to December 8, 1944, when he was in command in the Hurtgen Forest. This timeframe has also been referred to as the bloodiest time of battle. It was during this time on December 6 when my dad was initially wounded.
