He was a in the 349th Infantry Regiment of the 5th Army then the regimental HQ company, 363rd Infantry. He was a radio operator and served in the Italian North Appenines, the Po Valley, and Rome-Arno. He received the American Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. The Bronze Star was awarded for action on 27 April 1945 at Ronco A'll Adige Italy for "outstanding heroism in enemy fire when he inflicted heavy causalities on hostile forces."
