Activity During WWII

Serving initially in defense of the American Theater, he then served in the embattled Pacific Theater and saw extensive action while serving aboard the destroyer USS Pope. His ship was sunk during a heavy engagement on March 1st, 1942 and he was held as a POW at Makassar on Celebes, until he was repatriated during the Allied victory in 1945. His sacrifices and contributions helped to turn early defeat into eventual victory and overcame the dark forces of tyranny in WW2.
