Activity During WWII

In September 1942 he joined the United States Army even after he was passed over earlier for a missing right forefinger...trigger finger. He was an excellent marksman and his friends did not let him forget. He was assigned to the 634th Tank Destroyer Battalion, First Infantry Division, The Big Red One, and particiapted in the amphibious landing on the shores of Omaha Beach, Normandy, France, D2. He fought in five major campaignes including the Ardennes Offensive St. Lo, Battle of the Bulge, December 1944, rising to rank of sergeant...a few times! He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Silver Service Star.
