He was a US Navy Mess Attendant 3rd Class on the USS California when it was hit by Japanese torpedoes during the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. His body was unidentified until November 2023 by the DPAA. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery on September 5, 2024.
