WWII Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal and European African Middle Eastern Theatre Medal. HEADQUARTERS FORTY FIFTH INFANTRY DIVISION - Award of Silver Star Medal TO: Captain Homer A. Ness 0385991 Inf. 179th Infantry Regiment, for gallantry in action on 4 and 5 December 1943, near Traverecee, Italy. When his company attacked a strongly entrenched enemy force on two hills, Captain Ness inspired his men by his personal example of aggressive leadership. Although lightly wounded, he covered the front lines of his company, selected squad positions when squad leaders became casualties, observed for mortars, and when units suffered severe casualties, he swiftly reorganized them into fighting teams. His tireless example, high spirit, and outstanding conduct were largely responsible for the successful conclusion of the engagement. Entered military service from Kendrick, Colorado. Signed by: W.W.
