He served as Electrician's mate (SN) on the USS Suwannee after it was first commissioned from the beginning of WWII in both the Atlantic theater of operations Africa and Italy, and the Pacific theater of operations until after the Victory over Japan Day, Aug 15, 1945. He was honorably discharged after when the USS Suwannee returned from Japan following the signing of Japan's surrender aboard the USS Missouri on Sept. 2, 1945.
