Activity During WWII

He was a foreign correspondent and editor. He covered the early months of World War II at the front line in France, Belgium and Holland. As the German army moved on Paris in the summer of 1940, he followed the French government to Vichy, where he established the UP bureau for coverage of unoccupied France. He was a hostage in Germany for more than a year after being captured in 1943.
