Activity During WWII

At the age of 18, he enlisted in 1944 in the US Navy. Served on the USS Wilkes-Barre (CL-109), where he serviced J-liners. He fought at Leyte Gulf, Luzon, Leyte Island, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa Island and helped rescue sailors from the USS Bunker Hill after kamikazes hit it.. He witnessed the signing of surrender on September 6, 1945 on the USS Missouri in Tokyo, Japan. Discharged in 1946. Received the Combat Action Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, Occupation Service Medal and China Service Medal.
