After pilot training commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in May 1944. Appointed Flight Instructor in Cessna UC-78 Aircraft at Lubbock Air Force Base, Texas and North American B-25 Aircraft at Pampa Army Air Field, Texas. Overseas duty assigned to 5th Air Force, Troop Carrier Command, 375th Group, 58th Squadron, flying Douglas C-47 and Curtiss C-46 Transport Aircraft. Served in New Guinea, Bismark Archipelago, Western Pacific, Southern Pacific and Air Offensive Japan. Promoted to 1st Lieutenant in April 1945. Awarded Air Medal.
