Activity During WWII

He was a B-17 bomber pilot with the 96th Bomber Group, Heavy, 337th Bomber Squadron and was part of Operation Aphrodite, a top secret and dangerous mission that involved flying planes to bomb German rocket sites and submarine pens. After takeoff on August 4,1944, his plane malfunctioned and crashed near the English Channel. Awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross. Nearly 80 years after the crash, the bomber plane has been located. The Defense Dept. POW/MIA Accounting Dept. will be perusing the site for his remains.
