On December 7, 1941, he was killed aboard the USS Oklahoma at Pearl Harbor by an attack from the Japanese. His remains were identified on June 10, 2021 by DPAA. On September 11, 2021, he was buried at Most Precious Blood Cemetery in New London, Wisconsin.
