On December 7, 1941, he was killed on the USS Oklahoma at Pearl Harbor by a Japanese attack. His remains were accounted for by the DPAA on June 10, 2021. On September 11, 2021, he was buried at Most Precious Blood Cemetery in New London, Wisconsin.
