Activity During WWII

He served in the 2nd Infantry Division, 28th Infantry Regiment, and the 28th Infantry Division, 112th Infantry Regiment. He began his service with the 2nd Infantry Division by hitting the beachhead at Normandy on June 7, 1944 (D-Day plus 1). He served in five campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was injured twice, which required hospitalization from shrapnel wounds. After his second injury on August 13, 1944, he was reassigned to the 28th Infantry Division. He participated in heavy action during the Battle of the Bulge with the 112th infantry regiment, which earned their unit a presidential unit citation. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was decorated with the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He was discharged August 7, 1945.
