He served as a deckhand on the aircraft carrier USS San Jacinto. His length of service during the war ran from August 26, 1943 to his honorable discharge on April 18, 1946. The San Jacinto was involved in support of many key campaigns in the Pacific Theater and its crew served with distinction and received the Presidential Unit Citation for their service. Future president George H W Bush also served on the San Jacinto! Dad was proud of his service to his country, but like many, didn't talk much about it after he came home. We are so proud of him as well.
