He served aboard a Destroyer Tender the USS Denbola primarily in the North Atlantic. He was in communications and was a radio operator. He joined the Navy prior to the war. He was on duty and serving in the harbor in Portland, Maine on December 7th and took the message that Pearl Harbor had been attacked.
