He entered the service on 25 March 1943, receiving his training as an infantryman at Camp Blanding, Georgia. He was sent to Italy in September 1943 with the 30th Infantry 3rd Infantry Division. He was wounded in February 1944, was hospitalized two months and received the Purple Heart. He returned to action and was killed in Italy in the battle for Rome on 2 June 1944 at the age of 20.
