Activity During WWII

He attended the New York State Maritime Academy (NYSMMA) at Fort Schuyler, Bronx, NY, from 1944-1946. Upon his graduation from Fort Schuyler in October 1946, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Maritime Service (USMS) and sailed as a Junior Third Mate for the Socony-Vacuum Oil Company aboard the S.S. Socony Vacuum, and later on the S.S. Mobilgas. He was also a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve (USNR), rising to the rank of Lieutenant (Junior Grade) in 1949, until his honorable discharge from service in 1961.
