He served in Pattons 3rd Army with a tank destroyer unit and participated in relieving the men in the 101st Airborne who were fighting the Germans at The Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne Belgium. He also worked with the Russians to keep order after the Germans surrendered. He received the Combat Infantry Medal, Good Conduct and an Honorable Discharge.
