Activity During WWII

Nicholas, a World War I Merchant Mariner and Navy Veteran, returned to service in May of 1942 on the J. C. Donnell. He then served on the J. Fletcher Farrell, and the S.S. Gulfpoint. These ships sailed on the West Coast and through the Gulf of Mexico. While in port in New Orleans in October 1942, he was hit by a car and had his left leg in a cast. He went back out to sea on the S.S. William Wheelwright along the East Coast and signed off for hospitalization while in New York. He passed away from his wound becoming infected one September 10, 1944.
