Activity During WWII

He entered service on November 27, 1942 at Camp Lee, Virginia. He received his basic training at Camp Barkley, Texas. He was then sent to Louisiana for desert training. He left the U.S. on March 23rd, 1944, arriving in England on April 5th, 1944. He served in the battles of Normandy, Rhineland, and Central Europe as a member of the 12th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. He was wounded on September 27th, 1944 in France, receiving multiple shell fragment wounds to the face, left shoulder, and back. He recovered for nearly a year in an English hospital. He left England on October 26th, 1945, arriving in the U.S. on November 8th, 1945. He was honorably discharged on November 14th, 1945 at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, the Purple Heart, and World War II Victory Ribbon.
