He was in charge of general stores and records. He served on motor torpedo boats. He also served on the USS Massachusetts as part of Operation Torch and on the gangway crew on USS Hornet through the remainder of the war in the Pacific. He received a ribbon bar with star of the Presidential Unit Citation awarded to the USS Hornet for heroism displayed by her crew i action against enemy Japanese forced in the Pacific Area from 29 March 1944 to 10 June 1945.
