Activity During WWII

Nugent enlisted in the US Coast Guard in July of 1942. He began overseas duty in June of 1943. He saw action in New Zealand, the Aleutian Islands and the South Pacific. His family received word he "died from injuries received in an accident in the line of duty" 30 May 1944. He was buried with military honors in a temporary military cemetery on an island in the South Pacific thought to be New Guinea or the Philippines. His body was returned home for reburial in the United States in June 1948.
