He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in Medical Administrative Corps. and upon being shipped overseas Dec. 26, 1942 was made commanding officer of the American Cemetery at Cambridge, England, which served as a final resting place for our honored dead of the air forces. n 1945 (then a Captain), he was award a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious services in connection with military operations. In 1946 he returned to the States for a course of study, upon completion of which he was promoted to rank of Major and sent to France for a period of approximately eighteen months.
