His outfit advanced and captured an important objective most necessary for victory on Saipan Island. Later that night, they were protecting this newly gained ground, and everyone was on alert as activities from the enemy were expected. The enemy crept close to U. S. Lines under cover of darkness and fired into our line. He and another soldier were in the same fox hole and the strafing fire caught them both. It was too late for any way to save them, as they died instantly. He and his fellow soldier are buried beside each other in the 4th Division Cemetery in Saipan.
