Activity During WWII

Robert Dunavent enlisted in the Army on June 10,1942. He was assigned to Company A, 805th Tank Destroyer Battalion, 34th Infantry Division that was later reassigned to the 1st Armored Division on 20 February 1943. He was a crew member on board an M3 Gun Motor Carriage (Tank Destroyer). Robert was captured by the German Army at the Battle of the Kasserine Pass in Tunisia, North Africa on February 21, 1943, while engaging Field Marshall Erwin Rommel's Afrika Korps. He was transported to Germany and held in Stalag 3-B in Furstenberg. He was liberated and sent back to the United States on July 4,1945 where he was promoted to Corporal and was honorably discharged on September 7, 1945. Robert participated in two Unit Campaigns: Algeria-French Morrocco and Tunisia.
