He enlisted into the United States Navy as a Seaman First Class (S1C) on 12 November 1940 in San Diego, California. After completing his training, he sailed on 12 January 1941 from San Diego to San Pedro, California aboard the USS Enterprise and then transferred to the USS Neosho for further assignment to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He arrived on 21 January 1941 and was transferred to the USS Honolulu at Pearl Harbor. He was serving aboard the USS Honolulu when Pearl Harbor was attacked on 7 December 1941 and continued to serve on the USS Honolulu until January 1942. He fought during WWII and served for over 20 years before retiring from the U.S. Navy. His service number is 382307.
