Stationed at the U.S. Naval Training Center, Bainbridge, MD, he entered active duty with the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 2nd Class and, as a skilled carpenter, advanced to Carpenter’s Mate 3rd Class. He served aboard the USS Chemung (AO-30) and received the American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
