Activity During WWII

Enlisted in the United States Army 19 May 1943 at New York, New York. Served in the 99th Infantry Division, 365th Infantry Regiment, Company L. "On March 25, 1945, Near Elligen, Germany, Sgt. Zarnfaller Single Handedly engaged two enemy half-tracks. Despite heavy machine-gun fire, he charged the first vehicle, killing 2 enemy soldiers and capturing the rest. He then opened fire on the second vehicle, killing three and forcing the others to surrender." He Received the Distinguished Service Cross for this Action. Later Served in the 79th Infantry Division, 311th Infantry Regiment, Company L. Separated from Active Service 6 January 1946.
